About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Settling into life in New Zealand. Working on getting citizenship, becoming a cat father, and continue to focus on my career, and learn a few new skills along the way.

ABOUT ME

I'm your typical California raised computer geek with (surprisingly) some social skills, a taste for exotic food and wine, and world class dance moves (not really lol, but that doesn't stop me from trying). I've lived all over the world, recently lived in Leiden, Netherlands and most recently moved to New Zealand.

I am focused on expanding my mind, exploring the world, and experiencing awesome new things. I've been to Burning Man and a number of music festivals the world around, and want to continue to go to new ones.

I like to dance, love occasional nights out, but also love stayin' in and watching a movie over a cup of tea or some good interesting conversations about, life, travels, technology, culture, or whatever. Up for coffee/tea/dinner? I've got stories to tell about, well, just about anything nowadays, and I'd love to hear yours! I have odd hobbies, like juggling, spinning fire, I recently picked up pole dancing, and I enjoy sewing.

If you're into technology I can have endless conversations about that topic, but I'm not your typical closet geek. I'm a red wine-o, also a whiskey man, and though I have plenty of stories I'd actually love to hear yours! My favorite topics involve a cultural misunderstanding, or "your best CouchSurfing experience". All great topics with fellow Couchsurfers!

PHILOSOPHY

I'm just very random and easy going, I try to live my life random as possible, whilst still having a end-goal, dreams, and something to work for while having enough fun along the way.

I also really am into the exchange of thoughts and ideas. I like to speak and share my knowledge with others. I would also like to speak more often at conferences and meetings. I also love to listen, and learn from others. Like I said, the exchange of knowledge. :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I got into it from my sister back in 2006, didn't really start surfing until 2007, and eventually I wound up working as a full time Systems Administrator and Programmer for CouchSurfing back when it was a non-profit (2008-2012).

Nowadays I do the same, professionally mostly around Europe but service clients around the world (recently China and California). I crash the occasional CS event and whenever I have a place I'm at more than a few days I try to host people. When not, well, I'm being nomadic and randomly staying with friends, family and CouchSurfers.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Well, I've had some great hosts across the US, and met some awesome people at meetings in USA, Germany and Czech, Costa Rica, and China.

I've toured the US CouchSurfing, hosted and surfed in Germany, and met up with CouchSurfers now in 13 countries and plan to continue to expand that number.

Interests

I like to explore the world, experience its people, I rarely take photographs everywhere I go on purpose because I feel it takes away from the experience, and it gives me something to look forward to next time I go there. I love to experience new cultures and appreciate their differences, dance like there is no tomorrow, and do it all with a smile and positive outlook. :)

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies are fun, all types. Romantic sob stories, action flicks, intellectual mind-bogglers and edge of your seat thrillers. All great stuff. I especially like those movies that are REALLY stupid, like Airplane (very old example). The type of just really slapstick or blunt humor where most people go "ughhhh" I just love it! And of course anything scifi, so BSG, Star Trek, etc. Some off the top of my head top 10 (or so) are: The Big Lebowski, Requiem for a Dream, Fear and Loathing, Fight Club, Pulp Fiction, Black Dynamite, Kung Pow.

In music I'm a fan of anything except Country and Rap. Heavy influences are in Goth, Electronic, Trance, and Metal, and especially anything that can fit in all the categories. :) Recently got introduced to dubstep which is leading me to a lot of other new electronic music genres that are all interesting and amazing.

Books... well... I'm a really odd bird. My brain has a great capacity for understanding complex systems and imagination within' that realm which helps greatly in my profession, but it lacks this same

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I need to write a novel here... one day :) Though most of the great things in my life I'll never write down, even though a self-biography would probably be mind blowing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I like to teach spinning Poi (fire on a chain), and (micro)electronics, programming, and geeking out on everything life has to offer. Teach or show me a random skill of yours and I'll show you one of mine. :P
