About Me

I am a Boston native, currently work for a non-profit that educates and advocates for Blind and Deafblind individuals around the world. I really enjoy my work.
Outside of work: laughter, friendship, music and dance, late-night skates through concrete jungles

.. run, swim, surf, snowboard. Health is important to me. In college I studied Classical Greek Philosophy (a semester-long course). I was very involved in the moral and ethical thoughts of Socrates; the following are words which reinforce my dogmatic pursuit for well-being:

“No man has the right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training. It is a shame for a man to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable.”

I cook. I enjoy the chaos of cooking, working on multiple items and paying attention to timing, temperature, delivery of spice or additional ingredients. I’m creating something to share with family and friends; its not just the process I enjoy, but the dish acts as a gift to those whom I wish happiness to.

I have a twin brother and we’re currently rebuilding a crimson colored, 1970s Honda cafe racer. A beautiful piece of machinery. It’s a lightweight, lightly powered bike optimized for speed with room for +1. Everything about it, timeless.

Personality? I like to think I’m thoughtful and attentive in conversation. Although I can be a little cheeky, sarcastic, and act in the theatre of absurd, I respect and remain sensitive to the values and beliefs of others

I see travel as an opportunity to produce perspective. My theory of mind - the mental state which allows you to explain and predict human behavior - has matured because of my experiences abroad. Travel can allow you to conquer a fear or close a painful memory, it may also serve as time to reflect and develop a deeper sense of self-respect.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I’m traveling to Berlin, will be there April 16-19, 2018.

Interests

Exercise - half-marathon in Spring. 1.5 mile swim in September. Croatia and Montenegro in late-July to mid-August.

Music, Movies, and Books

All music except country and “drop-the-bass” EDM.

Books: Murakami, Steinbeck, Tolkein.

Movies: St. Ralph, Veronica Guerin, Bridge to Terabithia. Garden State, Labyrinth (w/David Bowie)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Clocked in at 42 mph skating downhill in Seoul at 4:30am. It was a thrilling, dangerous, and freeing experience.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have a “little” who is disabled, vision impaired and limited executive functioning skills. I’m currently teaching him how to swim. Being privy to moments like seeing his eyes light up as he swims and his concentration and determination gives the impression he is outside, he’s in the world we’re in. I find my time with him special.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I’m quiet at home. I’m a deep sleeper and prefer hard-surfaces (I sleep on a Tatami mat). I’m clean and organized. I can share stories of laughter and create soup-to-nuts meals!

Countries I’ve Visited

Countries I’ve Lived In
