About Me

Hello Couchsurfers, my name is Iskander, but some friends call me Kankan.

I am French Algerian, I grew up in Villeneuve-la-Garenne, a small town near Paris. I got into college in Paris and so I didn't have to move far from home to study. When I was 20 I moved to Washington, DC to live there for a year, as part of an academic exchange. This really opened new horizons for me, and it's in the US that I had my first CS experience, road tripping in California.

I don’t use Couchsurfing every time I travel. Last time was two years ago. I went to Berlin and met so many people thanks to this community.

I'm a bit of an introvert but I love to meet new people, make friends and try new things spontaneously. I'll be in London for 3 days (from 9 to 11 May) and I really hope I'll get to meet some couchsurfers along the way!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on Couchsurfing because I want to discover new places and its people as well as the people who, like me, are simply passing by.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music - I'm open to all types of music, I really try not to limite myself. So, what I listen to really depends on my mood.

recently added (as of August 2022) these songs to my Spotify Liked Songs: the RENAISSANCE album by Beyoncé, If you love me really by Brenda Lee, Ya Hasra by Balti, Wicked by Seori, Sweet Emotions by Aerosmith, Piano Trio No.2 in E flat, Op.100 by Franz Schubert, Last Last by Burna Boy, He Wasn't Man Enough by Toni Braxton, Jimmy Cooks by Drake, POP! by NAEYON, Atasanté by Tiakola and Hamza, Overloading by Mavins, Crayon, Ayra Starr, and a bunch of other artists/musics.

Movies - try not to limit myself but I also don’t go too often to the movies >< the movies I enjoyed the most the past few years (lol) include: NOPE; Triangle of sadness; Everything everywhere all at one; Dune (1 and 2) among other movies.

Books - Currently reading : the Night Journey by Keigo Higashino; Women don’t die of love anymore by Ahlam Mosteghanemi; Arabian Nights translated from Arabic to English by Yasmine Seale; À La Recherche du Temps Perdu by Marcel Proust (bit by bit, painful to read because sentences are just so long lol). And I’m a trainee lawyer who actually enjoys reading law books (mostly: International Public Law, International Humanitarian Law, International Investment Law, Human Rights Law).

Teach, Learn, Share

Obviously, I can teach you some French. I can also try to teach you some Arabic (Algerian dialect) if you're interested.

Besides that, I don't feel like I have much to teach >< but if you're going to Paris I can tell you about my favorite places in the city? or tell you about my experiences abroad and sharing tips I might have.

I'm pretty simple and very open minded. So basically, I'm up for whatever. I genuinely enjoy meeting people, having conversations, going out, trying new stuff. What is cool for you is probably cool for me as well.

What I Can Share with Hosts
